Bucos jolt Jints

Game 1 Bob Moose (2-1) vs Jim Hearn (0-4)
Moose was backed by three solo homers by Gene Alley (2), Dave Parker (1) Richie Hebner (4). Pirates win easily 6-3.

Game 2 Dock Ellis (0-1) vs Rueben Gomez (3-1)
This was all Dock Ellis as he completely shut down the Giants on three hits 6-0. Bob Oliver and Rennie Stennett each went 3-4 with 2 rbis.

Game 3 Dave Koslo (1-0) vs Jim Rooker (2-1)
Lefty Dave Koslo was masterful, allowing the Pirates but one run. The Giants hitting picked up as well, stroking 14 safeties off Pirate pitching. White Lockman was the star going 3-5 with two rbis. Bobby Thomson also chipped in two hits and 2 ribbies.

Game 4 Sal Maglie (0-3) vs Nellie Briles (2-1)
Monte Irvin opened the scoring in the third with a two run homer (2). Briles (1) answered with a two run of his own in the bottom of the frame. The Pirates would add two more and leave the third ahead 4-2. Wes Westrum (1) hit a solo shot in the fourth, but the Pirates tallied three in their half of the inning on Hebner's fifth homer of the year. Irvin (3) would hit his second dinger of the game in the fifth, then in the sixth, the Giants added three more to tie the game. That was how the game remained until the bottom of the 10th when Rennie Stennett doubled home Willie Stargell for the 8-7 win. --submitted by Tom "Crash" Davis--
