The New York Giants swept a series for the first time this season winning all three from the San Diego Padres. Ruben Gomez threw his third one hitter of the season in Game 1 easily handling the Padres, 6-0. He was backed by homers by Monte Irvin (4) Don Muellar (1) and Bobby Hoffman (1). Game 2 saw Dave Koslo win his third against no losses. The two teams traded three run outbursts in the early going but Hank Thompson's third homer of the season in the third inning put an end to the scoring and the Giants won 4-3. Gene Richards led off Game 3 for the Padres with a homer (1) to give the Padres a lead for the first time in the series. The Giants tallied single runs in the 3rd and 5th to take a lead but Sal Maglie surrendered a homer in the top of the 9th to Terry Kennedy (5) to tie the game. Hank Thompson would come through again getting his second consecutive game winning RBI with a single in the bottom of the 9th to secure Malie's first win of the season.
